Photographers often go to great lengths to conjure up and capture that elusive perfect moment of emotion or mood in their subjects. Hand an artist a scalpel and some photographs, and the moment can be drastically altered, to pleasing and interesting effect. British illustrator Martin O’Neill, who works alone in his East Sussex studio, uses a distinctive arsenal of typewritten scraps, filing cabinets, dogs, broken technology and faded movie characters to create his innovative works, and goes the collage route with this striking piece entitled “Proper Laugh.” The graphic appears in Dogs and Dice, Martin’s first book and the product of a collaboration between Cut It Out and JohnFrumPress.
